How To Spark Your Zeal When You Feel Unmotivated

The magic of spring is in full bloom, which tends to have a way of making everything feel possible.

The air is buzzing with fresh energy, the world is waking up, and suddenly, there's a spark to dream bigger and start fresh. But sometimes, this doesn't always happen for us—and that's okay

Some days, I wake up feeling… off. Typically, for me, this is when my hormones are in shambles, when the kids are needy or when I stretch myself too thin with travels, engagements and demands. In those moments, I lose all my excitement.

No creativity or motivation to tackle my to-do list—just a quiet resistance, a fog in my mind, and a heaviness in my body.

I know I have things to do, dreams to build, and people counting on me. And yet, some days, the motivation just isn't there. I feel disconnected from my zeal and wonder when I'll feel that spark again.

Maybe you've been feeling this too. And that's okay.

Our motivation can feel lacking for many reasons. Maybe it's the season—the gray skies and long nights. 🌫️🌙  Maybe our minds are racing with everything we should be doing, making it feel easier to do nothing at all. Maybe our bodies are calling us to slow down. 🧘🏻‍♀ Or perhaps the weight of the world—the struggles we see—feels too heavy to hold. 🌎💔

In the past, when I lacked motivation, I'd fall into self-doubt and question my purpose or ability to move forward. However, over time, I learned that motivation moves like the waves—sometimes surging with power, effortlessly carrying me forward. 🌊 Other times, it recedes, pulling back to gather strength and inviting me to trust that the next wave of motivation will rise again.

I also learned that just because I can't always feel my zeal doesn't mean it's gone. It's always within me, patiently waiting for me to find my way back to it. 💖

Now, I ride the next wave of motivation and find my way back to my zeal by:

  • Awakening My Senses: When life feels dull, I invite in small moments of beauty. A warm cup of tea sipped slowly. 🍵 The comfort of a soft blanket wrapped around me. A deep inhale of crisp, fresh air from an open window. 🌬️

  • Decluttering a Small Space: Energy flows where attention goes. When my environment feels cluttered, I take five minutes to tidy one small area—a desk, a drawer, or a corner of a room. 🧹

  • Honoring My Rhythm. I remind myself that we are not meant to be endlessly productive. 🕰️  Some days are for action, creation, and movement. Others are for stillness, recalibration, and rest.

So, if today feels heavy, if your spark feels dim, or if motivation feels out of reach—that's okay. 🤍 Trust that your zeal is still within you and your motivation is gathering strength to prepare for its next rise.

Most of all, be kind to yourself. Remember, life isn't meant to be lived in a constant state of action. Some days are for movement, others for stillness. Your next wave of motivation is coming, and when it does, you'll be ready.

And if you're craving a gentle way to reconnect with yourself in the meantime…
